Well, it turned out to be a very Tintin Christmas for me.
We went and saw the IMAX 3D version of the movie the tuesday before Christmas. Long story short, I really really enjoyed it. I thought they did an amazing job of synthesizing several stories into one cohesive narrative that didn’t get bogged down in backstory but still gave a sense of the richness of the world Herge created. And it was a ripping good yarn!
Then, for Christmas, my wife gave me the slipcase set of the books in the smaller format. It’s really a great looking set. The only volume missing is “Tintin in the Land of the Soviets,” which isn’t available in this format, so I’ll have to get that later.
My kids gave me the Tintin game for my xBox, which I haven’t even had a chance to dive into yet.
My wife and I traveled to San Francisco for NYE, and while walking from our hotel to House of Nanking (the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever eaten in,) we came across a great store called Karikter. They have a nice selection of merchandise from several famous European comics. I picked up a figurine of Tintin and Snowy from “Voyage to the Moon,” some pins, and figures of Tintin and Snowy for my son, who has become somewhat of a fan as well. It’s a really neat store. I encourage you to visit if you’re in town, or you can check out their website:
I really love the Voyage to the Moon figurine. The designs in that story have always been some of my favorites.
